I would just like to add that Kivan did indeed rock. He was probably my favorite NPC from BG1.
Other favorite NPC's from the series....
Jaheira (I really enjoyed her romance)
Viconia (I enjoyed her "romance" for entirely different reasons with the mod added)
Edwin (He cracked me up)
Saerileth (Great mod. Who wouldn't want an underage hot Asian paladin chick? Why are you looking at me like that?)
Sarevok (He was just such a badass...that evil laugh of his while removing heads from bodies was great)
Minsc (I enjoyed him more in BG1...he got a bit annoying to me in BG2)
Xan (Morose humor ftw)
I would have enjoyed Aerie immensely as a romance if not for the fact she went and got herself pregnant. I don't want a damn kid. :p
I will still go back and play through this series more eventually. I've lost count of how many start to finish run-throughs I've done, but it's a lot. The community is still thriving and putting out some great mods. This has to be my favorite series of all time. :)

Quote time, I have to play this game again soon.
Minsc
"EVIL MEET SWORD! SWORD MEET EVIL!"
Lilacor (is a sword btw)
"This one's for grandma who said I'd never amount to more then a butterknife."
Edwin
"Edwin do this, Edwin do that, somebody get this jerk a banana."
Keldorn and Jan
"Keldorn- It is not your place to judge my affairs. You must learn to respect your leaders.
Jan- I do respect my leaders. This has nothing to do with them. This reminds me of the chapter where the paladin first makes passionate love to the flesh golem. What a beautiful scene...
Keldorn- Begone, gnome, lest my honor demand I perform acts that you shall regret.
Jan- 'Fleshy, honey,' the paladin said. 'Yes, baby?' said the golem..."

Let's not forget these great Minsc quotes:
"Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!"
"Butt kicking for goodness"
"Squeaky wheel gets the kick!"

I'm still keeping track of the mods out there. Once I see a lot of new ones I want to try, I'll do another run of BG2. Yeah, lost count on how many times I've finished this game + expansions :) It's still soooo good.
I loved what they did with the Kivan mod for BG2, I'm a sucker for guys with his character, love it!
Also loved the Edwin Romance Mod, yes you read it right..Edwin Romance. It's so freaking hilarious! You're setting yourself up to get burned, a lot, but what an enjoyable heat it is *grins*
I was thrilled to see a Solaufein mod out there, tried it and hated it. Solaufein was a character that really stood out for me. Someone I would have loved seeing as an NPC. He had it all. Maybe someday someone will do it right.
The Anomen improvement mods were great too. Anomen annoyed the hell out of me at times, but with the packs available he's become a good character and enjoyable to have around.
Aerie, man...I dumped her instantly, each and every single time. I tried so hard to keep her in my party, but she annoyed me way too much for it to be any fun.
The new NPC Tsujatha mod was good too. A bit over the top at times, but he had that dark sensual thing going...which is always good ;)
I wish there was a BG3 :/

BG2 always got my character ADD worked up. I could play about 1/2 through the game before I had to start a new one! I'd even make the entire party from scratch... over and over....
As far as the npcs go, I'd say my favorite character was Jan. Whenever he stopped for conversation, it was always light and funny unlike others. (Jaheira)
Don't get me wrong, I liked Jaheira. But when you start over as many times as I did, the same dialog about being sad/worried started to get old. :p

Keldorn: Imoen! What... are you pawing at me yet again? Do you think I do not notice? You are attempting to pickpocket me, aren't you?
Imoen: Well, no... I just...
Keldorn: Just what? Out with it girl. I won't have a party member stealing from me.
Imoen: No, no, that's not it! I... I was just... I was just trying to find out if you're as muscular under your armour as you look. Oh, I know that you're married and all that Keldorn... but do you have *any* idea how good you look? I... I can't help myself, I just what to touch you all the time!
Keldorn: Imoen! I... I have a daughter that is the same age as you!
Imoen: I don't know what it is Keldorn, maybe it's the Bhaal essence in me. I just want to run my fingers through your hair and nibble on your ears! Oh, Keldorn, you drive me so wild!
Keldorn: By Torm, no! This is terrible! I... I had no idea I had this effect on you...
Imoen: Oh get over yourself already, Keldorn! Sheesh.
[Imoen giggles]
Imoen: Here's your ring back. I won't take it again, I promise.
Sarevok: Ranger, turn your rodent's gaze another direction! I will not be scrutinised as though by some ridiculous divining rod!
Minsc: Boo has an uncanny judge of character, but you... you give him trouble.
Sarevok: I'll give him more than that if this continues! I nearly conquered a nation! I will not be judged by a creature that stores nuts in its cheeks!
Jan: Hey! I resemble that remark.
Sarevok: Trust me, gnome, you do not want to partake in my wrath this day.
Minsc: Food storage aside, Boo controls himself far better than you do. Do you see him ranting about mere glances? Let's look.
Sarevok: What?
Minsc: See? No rant. In fact, now he is snuffling about for a comfy place to sleep. Admirable restraint.
Sarevok: I'm still in Hell, aren't I? This is insanity.
Minsc: Ah, finally a calming look comes across your face. Boo's handiwork, no doubt? Doesn't that feel better?
Sarevok: Let's... let's go kill something. Soon.
Jan: Anomen, my friend, I realise I've been less than polite with you in the past and I wish to apologize.
Anomen: Verily, you have played me most false.
Jan: Indeed! All know you're an unrepentant ass. 'Tis not my place to say so.
Anomen: Shut up, gnome.
Jan: Your ugliness, both in body and soul, thought true, is inappropriate for discussion and rankly impolite. You're stupid, poorly educated, and always smell faintly of lilacs, but it was wrong of me to bring attention to it.
Anomen: Silence before I CRACK YOUR SKULL!
Jan: Arrogant, drunken, priggish, whiny, pompous are common adjectives used to describe you, but I was wrong to say so. You are completely incapable of independent thought and soil yourself with regularity seldom found outside the nursery. I shall no longer bring these things up in front of the others.
Protagonist: Might you have any advice, o Sentient Sword?
Lilarcor: Advice, eh? Well, besides working a little on your swordsmanship. Besides that, I'd have to think. Hmmm... find someone rich, and kill them. Find someone richer, and kill them, too! Hack and slash you way to fortune! Woo-hoo!
Memories....hehe..yes I'm bored. Should have installed BG2 pre-AoC patch :p

I would love to go back and play them but AD&D drives me nuts. Maybe now that I'm not playing 3.0 or 3.5 on a regular basis it wouldn't be such a hassle to go back and relearn it, but I've got a backlog of other things I need to play (in particular the NWN2 expansion, which I hear is good but never finished because I borked up the cleric I made on my 2nd runthrough).

Mass Effect is rrreeaaalllyyy good. I LOVED it, so much! Rawr. :drool5:
To tease, some ME quotes..no spoilers :) These are some of your crew mates. Shepard is the protagonist :
Kaidan (upon walking into a 'Men's Club'): I see why this place is so popular; it's got quite the ... ah ... view.
Ashley: Hey, Lieutenant, put your tongue back in your mouth before you trip on it.
"If I die here, I'll kill him." ~ Wrex
"Don't piss in my ear and tell me it's raining." ~Wrex
Shepard: "Conrad... I haven't been shot in the head nearly enough times for that to sound like a good idea."
Garrus "I really hope we get to see the Normandy in combat."
Wrex "Only an idiot wishes for combat in a stealth ship!"
Female Shepard : You think I'm crazy, don't you?
Wrex: Sometimes crazy is the best way to go.
Ashley: Why is it whenever someone says "with all due respect", they really mean "kiss my ass"?
NwN2. The original was rushed, I felt a lot of stuff wasn't done properly but I liked it nonetheless. NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer. Never finished it, I hated it. Maybe if I was able to view it as a standalone game it would be good, but I can't. It's a sequel so I view it as one and hence I don't like it.

Once the memory of NWN2 has faded, I may go back to MotB and play it all the way through. As I'm typing this, I still feel annoyed they handled it in the way they did, so it'll be a while yet. Obisidian can learn a thing or two from Bioware as far as continuinty goes.
I could see why people still liked it though, but we all play for different reasons :)

My big brother was visiting once and I wanted to show him ME. I didn't tell him anything about it other than it being kick ass and made him play it. Needless to say I didn't hear a single word from him for the remainder of the day.
I just made sure there was food and drinks and had no problems sitting next to him and enjoying the ride he was on, for I knew it was going to be good :)

Just one more BG2 quote:
Lilarcor (the talking sword): "I LOVE THE SMELL OF DAISIES IN THE MORNING."

Yeah, Mass Effect was great, really good and believable scifi setting, plus, i'm an ass, and really, really frickin loved used the levitate and blackhole powers as a normal combo... then using throw. geth go up, geth crowd together, geth get slammed into walls, geth fall 30 feet to the ground. this works on pretty much anything, and seeing a 30 foot tall mech get tossed into the air is just plain fun. can't wait for the next, since you're supposed to be able to import your existing character.
bioware are the big boys of rpgs, but give obsidian credit, a lot of what they did in kotor 2 was really good, i love being able to actually alter characters in an rpg, instead of just "x has joined your party because you're a jerk".

So I've been looking at the DiabloIII gameplay trailer and it continues in that familiar old Diablo style. I can't help but wonder why Baldur's Gate 3 isn't made, it would have that similiar look to it.

There's a 99.999% chance that there won't be a Baldur's Gate 3. The studio that developed the Baldur's Gate series(Black Isle) is long dead. Bioware, who produced the Baldur's Gate series, has publically stated they are no longer in interested in developing games based on other companies' IP, and with the success of Jade Empire and Mass Effect, there's no reason they would change that position. Interplay, who did... something... with the original PC series, only has the rights to make a game in their Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series (Dark Alliance is a series of relatively good hack/slash actoin games).
As near as anyone can figure, the only company with the rights to legitimately make a Baldur's Gate 3 is Atari... and it would be pretty silly for them to make a BG3 when they have the NWN series.
Those of us who would love to see a Baldur's Gate 3 will have to accept non-D&D games like KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age (Bioware's new fantasy series) as the closests we can get. I'm particularly excited about Dragon Age... Bioware knows how to make quality games, and several former BG developers work on the project and claim that DA is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2.

I only want one thing from a D&D-like game that hasn't been provided since they stopped using the Infinity Engine: Full. Party. Control. No henchmen. No AI. No quasi-real-time BS.
This is probably a pipe dream, since it'd probably be 'too difficult' or whatever, but this is what I want.

Well was reading the news on a dutch gamesite and Electronic Arts' John Riccitiello confirmed Bioware is working on a MMO in the Knights of the Old Republic world in some interview.
[Update: We've just spoken with N. Evan Van Zelfden, the writer of the report, who told us that when asked specifically if this game was "KOTOR Online", Riccitiello responded unequivocally, "Yes." So, there you have it – sounds like we can take off our skeptical glasses.]
Not really sure how I feel about that, would rather have seen Mass Effect as a MMO and a KoToR3 as a seperate game.
Ashval
07-19-2008, 04:13 PM
Yeah, that was announced a couple days ago. Neth posted it on the GSP forums. I'm not sure how KotoR will play out as a MMO really. Guess we'll have to wait and find out. I'd love it if they at least went a similar route as AoC and added some single-player story-driven content into the mix.
